The Center held an international conference entitled "Minhagim: Custom and Practice in Jewish Life". This conference was the most recent in a series of conferences organized by and for the different international centers of the Goldstein-Goren Foundation. Representatives of the following Goldstein-Goren Centers were in attendance: The Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History at New York University; The Goldstein-Goren International Center for Jewish Thought, Ben-Gurion University; The Goldstein-Goren Center for Hebrew Studies, University of Bucharest. Other sponsoring institutions of the conference included the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. The opening session included a musical performance by the Eitz Chaim Choir. The third day of the conference was held in Jerusalem at the CNRS, Hechal Shlomo, and Congregation Moreshet Yisrael. Scholars from Israel, the United States, Germany and Romania took part in the conference.

The Center was honored to hold an event celebrating the inauguration of the renovated Avram and Stella Goldstein-Goren Wing of the Carter Building. The event was attended by members of the Goren family.

The unit for the study of Jews in Islamic Countries in the Modern Era helped to organize a symposium entitled "The 'Magic Carpet' Aliyah from Yemen: A Failed Operation?" in honor of the publication of Dr. Esther Meir-Glitzenstein's book, The Exodus of the Yemenite Jews: A Failed Operation and a Formative Myth (Hebrew, Resling, 2012). The event took place at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Noah Gerber presented a paper on the topic "'Magic Carpet' in the Writings of the Jews of Yemen".

May 22-23, 2012
An international research workshop entitled "The Bible in Arabic among Jews, Christians and Muslims" was held at Tel Aviv University. The workshop was organized by Prof. Meira Polliack in cooperation with the Intellectual History of the Islamicate World Research Unit of Freie Universität Berlin. Scholars from Israel, Germany, the United States, Spain, Sweden, France and Canada took part in the workshop.

The Center held an international conference entitled "Poetry in Context: Literature, Music and Daily Life in the Ottoman Empire during the Early Modern Period". The opening session included a concert of Ottoman music performed on the oud, qanun, and ney. Prof. Tova Beeri organized the event, and leading scholars from Israel and the United States took part in the conference; the event also provided a forum for doctoral students to present their work to senior scholars in the field.
