Abstract:

This talk will overview a new direction of research that can be conventionally called “electrochemical plasmonics”.

 It is based on voltage-controlled self-assembly of plasmonic nanoparticles at electro-chemical liquid-liquid or solid-liquid interfaces, the optical properties of which can dramatically vary with assembly structure and density. The effects to be discussed where navigated by theory and have been experimental realized by a team at Department of Chemistry of Imperial College; these refer to electro-switchable window-mirrors, tuneable colour mirrors, and ultrasensitive detectors of hazardous molecules or pollutants using novel self-assembling SERS platforms.
