ד"ר מאיה נסטלבאום גז, שכתבה את עבודת הדוקטורט שלה בסורבון בפריז וזכתה עבורה לציון לשבח (summa cum laude), מתמחה בספרות, היסטוריה, לימודי יהדות ושואה.
פרסומיה בוחנים נושאים של שואה, אנטישמיות ויהדות כפי שמשתקפים ביצירותיו של הסופר הצרפתי-יהודי רומן גארי. במהלך מחקרה בצרפת, היא קיבלה אישור מיוחד לחקור בארכיונו הפרטי של רומן גארי שהופקד במנזר ארדן בעיר קאהן. המחקר בארכיון תרם רבות לעבודתה ולפרסומיה המחקריים.
החל משנת 2012 ד"ר גז היא פוסט-דוקטורנטית באוניברסיטת תל-אביב, שם היא חוקרת אספקטים של תרבות יהודית וחיי היהודים במהלך השואה ואחריה.
תחומי מחקר
אני חוקרת ספרות מהסורבון בפריז, שמחקרה מתבסס על היחס בין ספרות, היסטוריה, סוציולוגיה ותיאטרון. המונוגרפים שכתבתי עוסקים בזהות יהודית ובשואה כפי שהם משתקפים בספרות פופולרית, בעיקר בצרפת. אני מתמחה במחקר עבודתו הספרותית של הסופר היהודי-צרפתי רומן גארי. במהלך השנים האחרונות התמקדתי בנושאים ותאוריות שונות, בין השאר: אינטרטקסטואליות, היפרטקסטואליות, פרהטקסטואליות, פסטיש, ספרות אירופית, תיאטרון האבסורד, ג'נוסייד, זהות יהודית, השואה ורב-תרבותיות.

- June 2008: Yad Vashem Prize (in memory of Mrs. Raaya Shoshan) for Ph.D.
- January–April 2010: Lectures- Ph.D. research, for the French Jewish community in Paris "Kehilat Gesher"
